T/IT: 不寛容について/Regarding Intolerance

この公演は、様々なデジタルディバイスを駆使したメディアアートとパフォーマンスを融合させた作品を構築する藤本隆行/Kinsei R&Dが、ドラマトゥルグに米国テンプル大学のシンヤB、 作曲にDumb Typeのメンバーでもある山中透、改訂のために新たな振付家として鈴木ユキオを迎え、役者とダンサーが混在する舞台上で、身体とテクノロジーが確かな相互作用を結び、強度と解像度の高い経験を提示する作品です。
人間社会がかかえる問題群を「寛容 (Tolerance) / 不寛容 (InTolerance)」という切り口から考察することに挑み、アメリカがドナルド・トランプを大統領に選んだ2017年に初演され、コロナ禍や激動する世界情勢に翻弄される現在、茅野市民館で再構築し改訂版を上演します。

Takayuki Fujimoto/Kinsei R&D, an artist/company that creates works that fuse media art and performance using various digital devices, has created a work that examines issues facing the international community from the perspective of “Tolerance/InTolerance“. It was first performed in 2017 when the U.S. elected Donald Trump president. Now that the world is at the mercy of the COVID-19 disaster and the turbulent world situation, we will perform a reconstructed and revised version at the Chino Cultural Complex, Nagano, Japan.
Continuing from the previous performance, ShinyaB from Temple University in the U.S. will participate as dramaturg, Toru Yamanaka, a member of Dumb Type, will compose the music, and Yukio Suzuki will join as a new choreographer. As a result, the work will evolve to present an intense and high-resolution experience.

人類という種の、創発性と残虐性は同根の果実であり分かち難い。
でもだからと言って、わたしたちはそれに呑み込まれてしまうのか？

旧人類は 500 万年進化しなかったと言われている。そこに、現人類が現れ、他の動物の殺戮をはじめた。手も知識もが「力」となり、より大きな力を生み出す創意工夫が文明を発展させていく。やがてヒトは、 「全能な力」を崇拝する。共に祈りを捧げ儀式を執り行うといった連携は、深い絆となり絶大な効力を持ち、ひとつの共同体となる。同じ神を信じない者への弾圧は 残虐を極めたため、他者との共存を図るために「寛容」という概念が生まれなければならなかった。共同体はしだいに国家となり、 社会のどの集団よりも上位に位置する権力で、「暴力を独占」 していった。ヒトは力に執着し、共同体は国家として、暴力の正当性を主張する。武器は、鈍器なものから鋭利なものへ発達し、そして弾丸となりやがて情報となった。創発性と残虐性は、同根の果実であり分かち難い。でも、だからと言って、わたしたちはそれに呑み込まれてしまうのか。

The emergence and brutality of the human species are the fruit of the same root and are inseparable.
But does that mean we are swallowed up by them?

It is said that archaic humans did not evolve for five million years.
When homo sapiens appeared, they began slaughtering other animals. Their hands and knowledge turned into “power” and produced even greater power. Ingenuity promoted the progress of civilizations.
Eventually, humans began worshipping almightiness. In parallel, prayers and rituals were performed to create strong bonds, and they were immensely effective in creating a unified community. Those who believed in other gods were oppressed brutally. The concept of “tolerance” had to be developed to allow coexistence with others.
Communities eventually became nation-states, the highest authority reigning over all other social groups, and monopolized violence. Humans cling to violence. As nation-states, communities increasingly justified state violence. Weapons evolved from blunt instruments to sharp objects and finally to firearms.
Creativity and cruelty are inextricable fruits of the same tree. Is it necessary, however, to be swallowed by violence?
